![]() Upon arrival in Guatemala City, met at the airport and transferred by road to Hotel Antigua in the colonial city of Antigua, the former Capital of Guatemala. Day 2 Time to explore the town, its churches, museums, monasteries and artisan shops. After lunch we will go into the Maya area of Chichicastenango, where traditions meet the present in a unique combination of cultures. Day 3 Chichicastenango is well-known for its outdoor colorful artisan market (Thursdays and Sundays only). Enjoy the market, its people and the opportunity to admire the colorful masks, textiles and other artisan items. Visit the small museum and the Church of Santo Tomas. You may overnight in Chichicastenango or return to Guatemala via Lake Atitlan. Day 4 Lake Atitlan and its eternal blue sky surrounded by several and well-identified Maya descendant communities is worth a stop! Hotel Atitlan, at the edge of the Lake, offers magnificent view of the volcanoes. Boat visit to the town of Santiago de Atitlan. After lunch continue to Guatemala City. Overnight at the Camino Real Hotel. Day 5 Early transfer to the airport for your flight to Flores near the most important Mayan site of TIKAL, which through the Classic Period was one of the largest and most powerful cities in the Maya world. Carved greenstone masks and other objects were found in vaulted tombs. Temple IV is the mightiest, standing 230 feet high over the surrounding jungle. A sunset view from its summit is a must! Overnight at the Camino Real Tikal Hotel. Day 6 Morning boat tour through Lake Peten Itza. Visit the sacred caves of Actun Kan and the viewpoint of the ruler Kanec. After lunch transfer to the airport for the your flight to Guatemala City. Overnight at Camino Real. Day 7 Continue to your next destination in the Maya World or return home. The flexibility of each suggested itinerary allows you to select and visit the most important sites in the Maya World. |
