Day 1
Arrive in Chetumal, "the Cradle of the mixed civilization (mestizaje). " Chetumal's unique geographical position allows the guest to visit most of the other Maya World destinations: Belize, Honduras, Guatemala, and the Palenque - Uxmal - Chichen Itza area in Mexico. Overnight at the Holiday Inn.
Day 2
A mid-morning visit to the Chetumal Maya Museum is a must. Whether you are beginning your visit to the Maya World, or already at the end, the magnificent display at the Museum will contribute to your understanding of the Maya's way of life. The various levels of the building will transport you to the parallel levels of the belief system in the Maya spiritual concept of God, our world and the underworld. Rest of day at leisure or optional activities. Overnight at the Holiday Inn.
Day 3
An eight-hour archaeological tour begins, lunch box included. Drive to Kohunlich where you may observe the remains of a complex irrigation system. The excavated structures include pyramids and masks. Continue ot the Campeche - Quintana Roo border to visit Becam, Chicanna and Xpuhil. Becan has some of the largest, oldest and most impressive buildings in the area, ca. 500 B.C.! Chicanna, is a magical and mysterious city from the Classic period. Its structures include five picturesque buildings around a central plaza. Xpuhil, a city which flourished also during the classic period, is famous for its latticed towers of its main pyramid or temple. Overnight at the Holiday Inn.
Day 4
This is the time to enjoy the many ecological systems near Chetumal: a boat trip to the Lagoon of the Seven Colors, or swim at the virgin beaches of the Mexican Caribbean, or dive and snorkle at the most beautiful reef in the Americas, the Chinchorro Bank! Overnight in the area or return to Chetumal.
Day 5
Continue to the Maya World around Chetumal by road or by short flights. Please inquire to identify the best cultural adventure program before returning home.
